Hiya PopPriceGuide! My name is Patrice! You may have seen my POP photos account on Instagram under the username: PoppityFunkoPops. I am a HUGE Pop Funko fan and love collecting any pop that catches my eye! I started collecting pops in November of 2015 and my collection has blown up since then! I had always seen pops around in stores but I hadn’t found my calling yet! It wasn’t until I saw the first wave of the Harry Potter pops that I then decided it was time for me to start collecting! Aside from my avid pop collector life, I am a certified American Sign Language interpreter! I went to a 4-year undergraduate program at Maryville College (in Tennessee) and double majored in Sign Language Interpreting and American Sign Language/ Deaf Studies. Furthermore, I went to graduate school at Gallaudet University (the most prominent university for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind individuals) in Washington, D.C. and got my master’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting in 2014! I met my fiancé while in grad school and then moved to Connecticut afterwards. Thus, the pop collecting team of “JoPa” (Jon and Patrice) began! Jon and I travel all over New England (Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut) and furthermore dip into New York City and Pennsylvania on our hunts for pops! One cool thing about my job as a sign language interpreter is that I am always traveling all over the state of Connecticut so I have hundreds of opportunities to check out different stores that sell pop Funkos! I’d say that’s a huge perk to my job and the reason our collection has blown up to the extent that it is today! We are currently at 232 pops and counting! Addicted is putting it lightly!!
1. How long have you been collecting Funko products?
I originally started collecting in November of 2015. Jon has just started joining in on the pop collecting/hunts as of April 2016!
2. What was your first Funko item?
The first Funko pop I owned was the entire Harry Potter first wave set (including exclusives!). I bought them all at the same time and have been avidly collecting ever since! Now Jon has started helping me hunt for pops for our collection as well. I’m thrilled!
3. How many Funko Collectibles do you own?
We own 232 Funko Pops, 7 Dorbz and 2 mystery-minis.
4. Do you have a favorite line or a line you would like to see?
I absolutely LOVE the Harry Potter line, the Sailor Moon line, and the Disney series! I would love to see the Harry Potter line continue to expand, featuring more villains such as Bellatrix Lestrange. I’d also love to see the Sailor Moon line continue to expand featuring the Outer Scouts (Uranus, Neptune, Saturn and Pluto) as well as the villains (such as the Dead Moon Circus, Twitches 5—my favorite!!). Oh, also if Pokemon could give Funko the license to make products, I would LOVE to see the original Pokemon turned into Pops!
5. What are your favorite Top 5 “Must Own” items in your collection?
This question is tough! The current top 5 items that we have in our collection are the SDCC Metallic Genie, Genie, Yellow Dress Belle, 9inch Metallic Boo and Sulley and 9inch Maleficent! There are so many more pops that we own that we consider “Must Own” but those are my (Patrice’s) top favorites at the moment.
6. What is your best deal/favorite find story?
My best deal story includes traveling around the state of Connecticut and finding yellow dress belle for $11.99 while her PPG value (at the time) was $150!) My favorite find story was when I found the SDCC Metallic Genie at a local store, hidden in the very back of the store. His PPG value was $260 and I found him for $95! I literally started shaking as I purchased him—nerves exploding out the roof! He’s been one of my favorite grail pops I’ve always wanted and there he was—staring at me on a shelf, hiding! He is now placed in a very loving home!
7. What line are you excited about that is yet to be released?
I am SO excited to see the Sailor Moon pops hitting shelves as well as more Disney. I absolutely love the Meeko and Pocahontas pops as well as the Dug from Up!
8. Do you complete sets with every variant or are you happy just to own certain Pops in a line?
I mainly shop for the pops I love. It is nice to collect the set/series but I have to love each of the characters to get the variants otherwise it’s not worth it to me. I love collecting just for the sake of collecting—not for the money value of the pop. Jon supports whatever I set my heart to but we usually just get the pops that catch our interest the most.
9. Favorite Social Networking group for News,Buying,Trading or Selling?
I absolutely love Funko Fans Buy/Sell/Trade/Talk. I met my Pop Pal Amanda there and she and I have become great friends from that networking group! She helps me find pops on the West Coast (California) while I help her out on the East Coast! It’s a nice system to have! I found out about the group from a girl in a local Hot Topic store I was shopping in during January 2016 and have been hooked to the group ever since!
10. Do you collect any other types of collectibles?
Yes! My sorority’s mascot is a turtle so I love collecting turtle figurines!
11. If you could design a line or add variants to an existing line what would you create?
I would love to see more Metallic variants of Disney characters! I would also add more variants to the Harry Potter line and the Sailor Moon line!
12. Any advice for new collectors or something you wish you had known when you first started collecting? Words of Wisdom?
Buy the pops you love! Don’t buy pops just because you hope the price will triple and you’ll earn more than what you paid for the pop! Prices change rapidly! One day the pop could be worth $50 dollars and then a month later it’ll be worth $12! Watch PPG and make sure you are collecting what interests YOU and not other people! To each their own but collect for the love of collecting! Go crazy and have fun!
